I wrote this a couple days ago but apparently forgot to post it 🙂
Waimea Canyon was the first sight we ventured out to on this trip. This is just west of the north shore of the island where Grant and Erna live. The island has a highway that goes around the whole coast but because of the cliffs on this northwest region, it’s the only section of the island that does not have a continuation of the highway. This meant that to get to the canyon we had to drive the whole way around the Island in the opposite direction. It took us a while but Clay was a trooper for the whole day. We stopped in Poipu for lunch in this really pretty little shopping area. I wish I took more pictures of it because it was so nice but unfortunately I only have one, it’s a great one though. Brett saw this shrimp sign and thought it would be great to get a picture of Clay standing beside it. It did turn out to be a funny one because Clay clearly does not look happy about the comparison 🙂
After lunch we continued on our way to Waimea Canyon. I’ve been to the Grand Canyon before but when I was there it was pretty cloudy/foggy and snowing so I don’t think it looked as amazing as it could have. We really lucked out with the weather at Waimea Canyon. Erna had been told that it’s not often that there aren’t clouds up there. This is the largest canyon in the Pacific, it’s 10 miles long, 1 mile wide and 3500 feet deep.
There were lookout points at three different levels, I found that the first and second levels were much of the same, at least in photo’s so I can’t really tell from my pictures which was which. I mentioned before that Kauai is loaded with Chickens and Clay had a little run in with a couple up at the Canyon.
Here are some pictures from the top! This was really where I thought it was the prettiest. You can see down over the ocean from here which is shown in the photos. It did get cloudy and cold up at the top though.
This one is a little fuzzy but it shows his cute football outfit well.
